By Air (Plane)
The most common way to start your journey to Dinagat Islands is by flying to a nearby airport in Mindanao.
From Manila or Cebu:
- Fly to Surigao City:
- The nearest major airport to Dinagat Islands is in Surigao City, located on the northeastern tip of Mindanao. There are regular flights from Manila to Surigao Airport or Manila to Butuan City Airport (non-stop flights are available via Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia).
- Once you arrive at Butuan City, you can travel to Surigao City via (bus or private vehicle).
- If you fly directly to Surigao City, you can travel to Dinagat Islands via a ferry or boat.
By Land
- Bus from Manila to Surigao City
- You can take a bus from Manila to Surigao City. The journey takes approximately 36-40 hours depending on traffic and stops along the way. Several bus companies operate this route, such as Philippine Rabbit and Bachelor Express.
- The bus will take you through major cities like San Pablo, Legazpi, and Tacloban before arriving in Surigao.
If Coming from Other Parts of Mindanao
If you’re coming from another location in Mindanao, you can take land transport (bus or private vehicle) to Surigao City, where you’ll then catch a ferry to Dinagat Islands.
From Davao or Butuan to Surigao City:
- You can take a bus from Davao City (about 6-7 hours by bus) or Butuan City (about 2 hours by bus) to Surigao City. From there, follow the ferry route to Dinagat Islands.
By Boat/Ferry
The only way to get to Diangat Islands by Ferry is through Surigao City.
After reaching Surigao City, you’ll need to take a ferry to Dinagat Islands.

The ferry ride from Surigao City to Dinagat Island usually takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. The main port in Surigao that serves ferries to Dinagat Islands is Surigao Port. Ferries depart regularly and provide connections to various towns in Dinagat, such as Cagdianao, Libjo, and San Jose.
